Timeless, Sustainable Textiles, Made in Ethiopia

Hi there!

This week I’m excited to focus on one of my partners from Ethiopia, who are crafting some of the most timeless, quality textiles for bath, kitchen, and everyday use. They offer a wide range of placemats, runners, scarves, cushions, throws, and other table linens but today we’re spotlighting these beautiful towels which are fairly new to the mix.

From solids to stripes, these 100% cotton towels are made to last. I know we all love a waffle towel and they’ve created that same effect here, making these towels super absorbent. Traditionally, Ethiopian handweavers have used two-harness looms. Sabahar has trained their weavers to work on 4-harness handlooms which enables them to offer many more designs and textures. Plus, they’re available in a range of colors, including adobe, blush, flax, stone, grey, and black.

I love repping this enterprise not only because the products are timeless and beautiful but because their mission is so strong. They support 94 employees and work with another 60 weavers. They pay employees a consistent Fair Trade wage, innovate while sustaining traditional weaving techniques, offer their staff a lovely open-air working environment, believe in women's empowerment through employment and training, and focus on sourcing local raw materials whenever possible.
