Block Printed Textiles, Made in Pakistan

This week, we’re looking again at natural dyes, this time from Pakistan. I find myself appreciating nature so much more these days and am happy to support a vendor that’s doing their part to protect their local environment.

Among their collection are some adorable, naturally dyed bandanas. They’re a lovely and easy addition to your shop that I imagine will sell well. Plus, they’re multipurpose and can easily work as unique napkins or hair accessories to protect from the sun.

Their line of home textiles uses indigo, made in collaboration with Ajrak artisans in Sindh, Pakistan. They work and live in harmony with their natural environment. The sun, the river, local animals, plants, trees, and mud are all part of the art of making Ajrakh.

They dye each piece in numerous layers, creating textiles that are nuanced and rich in texture and color. Using hand-carved wooden blocks, the motifs are printed using a resist before being submerged in natural dyes. The entire community is involved, and in this area of Sindh, there is a strong cultural relationship with nearby Sufi shrines.

The collections are also thoughtfully created, taking care to not use any harmful dyeing processes and always striving for zero waste. They work with beautiful colors of and from the earth, including indigo, madder, and iron.

The collection includes:

  • Dinner and cocktail napkins in indigo blue and iron grey

  • Table runners

  • Table mats + coasters

  • Cushions + Baskets

  • Bags, scarves + accessories

  • Bandanas
